Inside a sediment‐stressed Middle Devonian carpet reef: Cave exposes details of three‐dimensional facies architecture and palaeoecology

چکیده

ABSTRACT During the Middle Devonian, reef growth reached an acme, and corals stromatoporoids colonized depositional niches commonly considered unfavourable for reefal organisms. This paper documents detailed facies architecture palaeoecology of a stratigraphically thin ( ca 12 m, ‘carpet reef’), lower Givetian body exposed along walls ceilings labyrinthine passages in Klutert Cave western Germany. The cave exposures 26 000 m 2 rock surface) data from short cores, neighbouring caves outcrops document demise autoparabiostrome. forms part parasequence with carbonate upper clastic unit, bounded by flooding surfaces. Despite comparatively small study area 1 km ), exceptional exposure quality reveals changes over relatively distances both vertical lateral. sedimentary matrix build‐up contains between 20 to 95 wt.‐% clay quartz silt sand fraction. Based on this observation, thrived murky waters under sediment‐stressed conditions. Stromatoporoids, example, display irregular ragged flanks, feature that is agreement environment. In-Between Space, Dialectic of Inside and Outside in Architecture

Defining space by dividing it to inside and outside is one of human’s ways to recognize his positionin environment. Architecture is created to response to this need for inside/outside spaces. Design of inside and outsideSpaces and relation between them always has been one of necessities for definition and limitation of human livingspaces, but little attention to relation of this two spatial rea...

Middle Devonian liverwort herbivory and antiherbivore defence.

To test the extent of herbivory in early terrestrial ecosystems, we examined compression-impression specimens of the late Middle Devonian liverwort Metzgeriothallus sharonae, from the Catskill Delta deposit of eastern New York state. Shale fragments of field-collected specimens were processed by applying liquid nitrocellulose on exposed surfaces. After drying, the film coatings were lifted off ...

Glyptolepis from the Middle Devonian of Scotland

The Rhipidistia (Osteichthyes, Crossopterygii) comprise three superfamilies of Paleozoic fossil fishes, the Holoptychoidea, Osteolepoidea and Rhizodontoidea. Of these the members of the Holoptychoidea (families Holoptychidae and Porolepidae) are by far the least well known, and consequently there exists a considerable gap in our knowledge of the evolution of the Rhipidistia as a whole. The aim ...

Classification and Analysis of Troglodytic Architecture, Man-made Cave, in the county of Maragheh

Man-made caves or troglodytic spaces are special kinds of architecture in which no materials are applied for creating the spaces and in turn they are created through decreasing the rocky mass in the ground and rock’s bed by human being. The Man-made caves or troglodytic spaces have been identified and introduced in different parts of the country so far. Maragheh County which is located in the n...
